Pumpkin Patch Cakes

Sure these are “Halloweeny,” but they taste “all-year-roundy.” (Note: This isn’t the best photo, but it’ll do). This is a quick recipe for a cute and fun dessert suited for all ages, humans and goblins alike! You can even change it up and make witch heads, ghosts, or any other monster heads!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 box of yellow cake mix
  • Orange food coloring
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • Pretzel/sesame rods or sticks
  • Black cookie/cake decorating gel (orange is optional)
  • Mini Bundt pan

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 12 mini Bundt pans with nonstick baking spray.
  2. Prepare cake mix and add a few drops of orange food coloring until at desired orange (note: it might seem “too light,” but it’ll darken once baked), fill the pans halfway with the batter and bake as directed.
  3. When cakes are done, unmold and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar with 3 or 4 Tbsp of water to make a thick glaze.
  5. Using a sharp knife, trim the bottom of each cake to they’re flat and assemble into pairs.
  6. Spread a small amount of the glaze on one side of the flat cake and assemble the pairs to form pumpkins.
  7. Use the black decoration gel, draw eyes and a mouth.
  8. Place the pretzel/sesame sticks on top to finish off.
